Sibylle Hyink-Horischnik, LMFT

Sibylle started her professional life as a social worker in Germany where she worked for several years with young adults in a psychiatric hospital, a drug rehabilitation clinic, and a family planning institute. During that time she also began to study Yoga, meditation, and movement expression which lead her to spend several months in India and Sri Lanka. To further her studies in Yoga and various forms of body-oriented psychotherapy, she came to Los Angeles in 1981. She became a certified massage therapist in 1982, a certified Yoga teacher in 1983, and received her Masters in clinical psychology at Antioch University Los Angeles in 1988.

Since her graduation, Sibylle completed a certification in EMDR as an adjunct to working with trauma. She has been in private practice as a psychotherapist in Santa Monica since 1993 working with individuals and couples.
WHY THERAPY? HOW DOES IT WORK?
In most instances, people seek therapy as a result of a current crisis. They might feel overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck, frequently accompanied by disturbing feelings, thoughts, and/or behaviors which interfere with their ability to function in their relationships, at work, or life in general.

When working with clients, Sibylle integrates her training and experience in psychodynamic and humanistic-existential psychotherapy with her knowledge of body-oriented therapies. She considers each individual to have his or her unique history and experiences and therefore tailors her varied studies and experiences to each client's needs. With respect and compassion, she offers a safe and trusting relationship which she believes to be essential in helping people to heal. Within this context she helps clients to explore, understand, and transcend dysfunctional patterns of behavior and beliefs which create difficulties in present day relationships and obstacles to a more fulfilling life.
